Saint-Gobain opens a new mortars plant in Ethopia

Saint-Gobain has opened a new mortars plant under the Weber brand in Tulefa, Ethiopia.

This new production line will be the first of its kind in the East Africa region. The Weber plant will provide the market with locally manufactured technical mortars and a tile adhesives range that aims to serve the need for more sophisticated and technically advanced building materials.

The plant was built and designed to work as simply and efficiently as possible, offering low energy consumption and sustainability, while complying with the Weber EHS and quality standards - thanks to a new prototype production line. Despite the obstacles faced during the Covid-19 lockdown and travel restrictions, all Weber entities in the group in Sub-Saharan Africa, the EU, and Turkey has contributed to the successful commissioning of the plant.

Ethiopia is one of the fastest-growing markets South of the Sahara and investment projects sponsored by the Ethiopian government are aimed at rapidly developing the country’s infrastructure, making a major contribution to dynamic development.

“With our strong local presence, we can adapt products to meet the specific customer requirements, and make products available with shorter delivery times. We also aim to convert the site-mix market to a range of pre-mix products that will offer better performance with time. Thanks to our local team – all Ethiopian - we are creating the ideal conditions for participating in the country's dynamic construction market”, says East Africa Managing Director.

As the most innovative plant in the region, the plant will manufacture advanced tile adhesives, a range of grouts for tiling, smoothing mortars for flooring, concrete repair mortars & systems, as well as waterproofing solutions.
